Yemaya, sometimes referred to as Yemonja, is the Yoruba mother of the sea. Kuetzpal Vasquez created Yemaya as a sirena (mermaid) which connects her with the African mother Mami Wata. She protects all of her children because it is said that we all come from the sea.
