Tonasihuatl renders the Mexica (Aztec) Tonalpouali through a feminist lens. Tona means earth and Sihuatl means woman. The four main sections highlight the essential roles women played in Mexica culture. The skulls are a PreColumbian symbol of rebirth for womyn. The roses make reference to Tonantzin, most commonly known as La Virgen de Guadalupe.
